    Amys singing voice lately.

okay i love amys singing voice, as we all do.

but i have noticed that since the grammys she seems to be struggling to belt out the big notes.

dont get me wrong, i think her voice is still incredible !

but she seems to be struggling, like at the brits, rock in rio, nelson mandela and glastonbury she seems to be a bit croaky when going for the big notes.

compare now to a year ago, i think she sang better a year ago.

i LOVE amys voice now and then.

    is it just me?

and im worried maybe its the crack smoking has already taken affect to her singing voice...

will she never be able to sing like she did a year ago?

but she did do great at the rock in rio in madrid, that was very good.

    so maybe she is improving..

    what do you guys think?

I love Amy's voice too. She might want to consider what the great opera singers do on a regular basis: work with a vocal coach. The really good ones can help a singer develop and protect her voice. I once heard Marilyn Horne, the world-renowned mezzo soprano, say that a lot of young pop and Broadway singers risk ruining their voices by "belting" rather than using proper technique. And believe me, no opera singer I've ever met will go within 100 feet of a lit cigarette.

I agree to ... her voice those not sound the same as on the B2B cd specialy the high notes ... but she still sounded well if you only listen to the RinR madrid video. Im sure she gets her voice back if she smokes less ...

Opera singers work hard to develop their voices. Amy got hers for free, effortlessly.

Yes but you have to remember Amy's voice isn't trainable its a inborn talent... it's unique and the training a opera singer gets would be quite different... she just has to maintain... the notes she sings comes from her heart... and no the drugs and the cigs don't help... but, perhaps it could be the reason she has such a seasoned nostalgic sound...

Her voice seems to be getting better, but slowly - see the videos of T in the Park where she gets better throughout the set. I don't think she's done it permanent damage (yet) otherwise she would have pulled out of the gigs to see what could be done. Even if she stopped smoking entirely, it would still take time to get her lungs and voice back (speaking from experience although I can't sing a note in tune).

Some of it may be nerves too. Festival stages, festival crowds probably are difficult to play - bet she'd be happier playing in a late night jazz club or old converted cinema! T in the Park looked a bit cold too, but I s'pose a thermal vest and long johns wouldn't have looked good...

no - just seen the same ones you have. There's a review in the Times http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/live_reviews/article4327974.ece which seems quite fair (it says she looked like a terrified child and was mumbling a bit but was really great when she relaxed and started to enjoy it). Considering the way all the tabloids were writing her off a few weeks ago, she's doing amazingly well.

Yeah--singing opera is a whole different thing, and the training is different. But other types of singers can and do work with coaches.

As in Amy's dream, where her grandmother said she wasn't living up to her potential, she can be EVEN better.  Everyone, even Amy can improve with training. The greatest athletes put in less than their potential despite their natural ability, Amy is no different.

ITA, AJLuvsAmy!  Also, IMHO, whenever she 'mumbles' she's forgotten part of the lyrics, I'd wish she'd practice before performing.  To paraphrase gredh, (good thread) a year's worth of damage has taken a toll on her voice.  When Winehouse sang LIALG @ Oxegen (YouTube), her phrasing and innotations were almost pitch-perfectly, in spite of her mumbling (drives me crazy) in between lines.  When she's on, she's on fire.  Best 2 performances THIS YEAR, from Oxegen and T in the Park.  I believe WAY better than the Brits or Grammys.
